overland to china

Hi All

Does anyone know how i can find out how many miles (and the approx time i should allow to get there, I know this could vary and its not really the idea to race through the other countries.) it is to China from the U.K. - I envisage going through europe, Iran, Pakistan up the KKH to Kashgar then across to Qingdao in the East.

Would prefer not to fly to see my family and to visit Pakistan again.

Thanks in advance

Simon

France to Islamabad - 14600kms going the northern route... Russia, Kaz, Western China then south to Pakistan. Took us 56 days to get to that point.

John

Thanks for the info, that starts to help with the planning, could you tell me if the 56 days seemed rushed.

Thanks

Simon

Did it ever! Although we planned rest days into the trip, but we never really got them.
5 days lost in Germany waiting for my Carnet.
2-3 days lost in Kaz because we didn't realise how bad the roads could be.
6 days lost getting into China.
5 day lost getting out of China.
5 days lost on the KKH as the road was washed away just south of Dassu.
Another couple of days lost due to my injuries after a crash near Besham and subsequent visit to hospital in Islamabad.
Delays due to monsoon rains in India.

So, we ended up riding every day, except when we were waiting for something.
We had a deadline to reach Goa by... Never again will I put a deadline on a trip.

Fantastic trip though:clap:

Cheers,
John

Thanks John

Could you tell me how many miles it was to the chinese border, You came in at the Kasak border?

I have now worked out going the iran and pakistan route then onto my final destination will be circa 11,000 miles, of which i think 8,300 will be upto the chinese border (7500 miles to Islamabad - 800 miles KKH)

Thanks once again

Simon

To the border at Kazakhstan(Jarkent)/Korgos was 9836 kms.

If you click the "Archive" tab on my web site, each days blog has a mileage entry in kms:smartass:

Cheers,
John

.
Hello Simon,

Great to hear of your plans to visit China.
If your going as far as Qingdao, then you really have to make the shortish trip directly north to Yantai.

It should just be an easy days ride, on very good roads.
I was 6 months in Yantai, and can thoroughly say I had a great time.
