Malaysia to India: space left in container

We're shipping a van from Port Klang (Kuala Lumpur) to Chennai on 20 November 2009. The date is fixed, as we want to attend a wedding in India.

We're shipping in a 40" high cube, there is 7.6 meters of empty space left in the container, so anyone who would like to share the costs, either bikes/car/van, please let me know.

Also looking for people to share same (size) container from Darwin to Dili, mid August 2009, and Jakarta to KL or Singapore, late September 2009.

Cheers!

Kai

Could be interested.

Are you planning to use a shipping agent or doing it yourselves to get the vehicles through customs in India?

re shipping agent

Hi Paul, I have not yet contacted a shipping agent in Chennai to process on that end. Do you have any thoughts re agent/DIY?

Hi Kai

When I looked at shipping into Mumbai from Dubai it seem very complex so in the end I gave up and flew my bike direct from Dubai to KL - a very simple process and I did all the customs etc myself, very easy particular as the people at Emirates where very helpful.

So I am currently of the opinion DIY is best but am also aware the India officals love their paperwork.

As yet I don't know if I am going further East (Oz/NZ) or am returning to the UK (via India, Pak, Iran etc), so I'll watch this thread to see how you get on and if there is still space in November - who knows I might jump in!

Diy

Hi Paul

I will enquire with the Malaysia based shipping company re DIY for customs in Chennai, in certain cases you 'have to' use a shipping agent to get your vehicle off the wharf.

I expect there will 'always' be room on the container for a single bike, even if we get the company of another vehicle, as most will be under 6 meters in length.

Cheers

Kai
