Malaysia

Hello,

Here are some practical infos regarding Malaysia:

- Very friendly and helpful people
- Very good roads, good signposting
- Cheap petrol, (petrol: 1, 92 Ringgit / 0,35 Euro; Diesel: 1,58 Ringgit / 0,28 Euro)
- Good and cheap restaurants anywhere
- Supermarkets in big cities, otherwise no problem to find everything in street markets
- No road blocks
- Speed limit controlled by radar, but I don’t know what they do about foreigners
- Cameron Highlands: very nice road through the hills for bikers
- Easy border with Thailand
- Third party insurance for Thailand available at petrol stations before the border (2 Euro for 6 months)
- Some areas are very populated, so not easy to camp in the wild, plenty of guesthouses / hotels anywhere
- Penang island camping on the beach (no infrastructure) : outside Batu Ferringhi (coming from Georgetown) N 05°27’717’’ E 100° 13’ 133’’

Have a safe trip
Albert

somehow, they never stop motorbikes. i've been riding the north-south highway well over the 110kmh limit; all the time. but do keep to the speed limit in check.

Is that applicable to bikes imported into Malaysia on a carnet?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
