LAOS: >250cc bikes

Thought of sharing this with you guys.
It will be possible to import and ride etc bikes with more than 250cc in Laos.
So I guess that in the foreseeable future it will be possible to fly in and hire a motorcycle for some fun... :scooter:

I know nothing about the rental situation on Laos ... but I'd love to see the country.:D

What sort of bikes are available to rent now?
Anyone have an idea of daily cost to rent a 125cc or 150cc bike?

Are any of available bikes made (or assembled) in Laos? I think part of the reason bikes are a bargain in Thailand is that so many factories exist there. (Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph, and several more)

If Laotian bike rental businesses have to pay expensive import tax on their rental bike (100% to 400%??) then I would guess it may be expensive to rent a bike there? :confused1:

A 250cc bike would be good, but I got along fine on 125's on a couple rides around Thailand. I'd love to get back there someday!! bier

I was in Vientiane last week. I heard there are 3 shops in town owned by Expats. One American, One german and one French. I stopped in the french guys shop to try to find an 18 inch tube for the ktm 690. He was able to point me to a shop that had an IRC medium duty tube for $30. Not a good price but better then not having a spare and needing it.

This is the french guys website but his shop is called something else now.
Jules Classic Rental, Rent bikes in Laos - Location de motos au Laos

Remote Asia Travel - Bike Rental Laos - Laos Motorcycle Rental

Looks like prices are about $30 to $50 a day.

On a side note, When I came from Cambodia to Laos, the Loas customs official looked at my registration card.. flipped it over and handed it back. I asked "ok?" He didn't even look at me when he waved his had to GTFO of his face so he could get back to angry birds or something on his iphone.
