Lao visa on border when crossing Cambodia to Lao?

OK - so as usual i have done lots of research and everywhere is still telling me that I need to get my Lao visa (UK passport) before i enter Lao from Cambodia.
however, I have recent 'word of mouth' reports that you can indeed get a Laos visa at the border when entering from Cambodia.
(i know that the other way round -Lao to Cambodia-is fine).

so - anyone done this recently? i dont want to go to the border without one and then have to go all the way back to Phnom Penh to get one!

advice please :-o

my little rant.....and if you can get one i really wish all those so-called up-to-date websites would infact be up-to-date and stop wasting my time and expensive internet access!

Cambodia-Laos Don Khom Border

Given that there is only one border crossing, this must be the Don Khom (Veun Kham) border?

Sorry this might not help but back in 2009 we crossed this border and we already had our visas (so we would have 30 days).

It is a (VERY) small border so probably best to get a Laos visa beforehand (especially if you want to stay longer than 15 days) but from non conclusive post I read on GT Rider they also issue on-the-spot entry visas. This is just a stamp and date/signature in your passport and is only valid 15 days.

NB we were asked by Cambodian official for US$5 to stamp our Carnet.

We loved Laos, enjoy and do go to Khong Lor caves, simply incredible.

I recently went through the two closest borders to Laos, Savanakhet and Boy-y No probs. (Boy-y,Vietnam/Laos, to The thousand Islands is one of my fav rides)
You MUST have spare passport photos though.

visa on arrival is fine.

You should carry 2 photos. If you ain't got any, a 5$ "fee" does it.

Friendly people at the border, brand new road on the cambodian side, when I passed it around May last year.

Good luck

got in Phnom Penh.

decided to get on before hand as we were going to Phnom Penh anyway. very easy and quick. $40. can enter anytime within a 2 month period and visa will then last one month.
two application forms, 3 passport photos and $40. get the next day.
will let you know what i see at the border ie what is required if I had left it until then to get a visa.
