KKH - how many days from China to Amristar

Hello Guys,

I am currently planning my next year RTW. We (two Africa Twins) plan to go through Pakistan from Chinese border, a long KKH, Islamabad and Lahore, and then enter to India in Amristar (as this is the only possible border crossing). I wonder how many days I should count to cover "the Pakistan leg" :confused1::confused1::confused1:? I would also be grateful for any hot spots on the way worth visiting :thumbup1: and any places which we definitely should avoid :nono:.

Cheers and regards from Warsaw,
Aleksandra

At least a couple of weeks would be fine I'd guess. You can read what I wrote about my trip there which I did in August on my blog if you want. The KKH is really nice and like India, a lot quieter in the mountains than in the flatlands. The people are still quite 'in your face' like India though but they do tend to ask you a lot of questions rather than just stare at you and everyone I met was friendly. It's an experience, thats for sure! I also loved the 'paratha' bread for breakfast and the sweet milky tea too.

Can't really comment on 'hotspots' as you're not going till next year and a lot might have changed before then. Who knows, maybe Obama will have got everyone to be big friends by then and will have kissed and made up with Iran etc etc...or maybe not.

End of the KKH Road:

From the border to Amritsar could be done in five days riding, I guess: Three from the Chinese border to Islamabad, one to Lahore, 1 (3 hours including border crossing actually) to Amritsar.

Would just be a pity not to spend much more time in Pakistan! Loved it.

Cheers

I rode the KKH from Kashgar, China to Islamabad, Pakistan this year. From Islamabad I went via Lahore (Wagah) to Amristar.
The KKH is about 1200km from Kashgar to Islamabad. Five days is perfect.
Then one day to go to the border.

Checkout my blog for more info:

KKH was one of the highlights of my trip.

Kkh

I did from the Chinese border to Amritsar in 15 days in '07.

That included a 2 day detour to Skardu and a 5 day hold up just south of Dassu due to an overnight rain storm that washed away the road. That was in July. We thought of returning to Chillas to try and find the jeep track that goes south but were warned off it due to the local tribesmen firing at the police back up north. I did not find Dassu to be a very welcoming place.

Also have a write up. That part of the trip starts at BikerBytes.com: Break for the Border - part 2

Have FUN,
John
