Karakoram Highway to Kyrgyzstan May / June 2012

Hi there

We are thinking of driving the KKH up to the Kunjerab-Pass into China and cross China in the least time we can to Kyrgyzstan with our Toyota Landcruiser.

I do have experience with driving in China and are contacting different company's already now for getting the best price.

Since a group of cars / motorbikes lowers the costs dramatically we would like join up with as many other travelers as we can find.

It would be around May or June 2012.

Does anybody is interested in joining us?

Greetz

Hi Roman,
Sounds like a great plan.
They are routinely carrying vehicles across the lake for US$ 100.

Cheers

Hi there...

So the lake still exists but is crossable with a ferry? There are very different stories going around lately... not crossable, road is free now etc...

But if you say it is possible to cross... that sounds wonderful!

Thanks for the news
Roman

There are ferries across the lake, people will help you pile the bikes onto a small boat and take it across... its a 30km long lake - its going to take awhile to drain it back down to the road level.

The last section up to the lake (through the landslide area) has deep bull dust but there are always people around to help you out.

Well, I hope they also transport a 3ton car... :) But I saw a picture where they put a car on a boat... 30km? CRAZY!

Hey

does anybody knows details of the transport on the lake in the northern areas? What are the maximum size of vehicles transported there? What is the maximum weight?

There are other travelers here in India who may wanna join up to Kunjerab Pass but there vehicles re something between a truck and a car!

Any infos are helping

Thanks
Roman

You could Try Ayub Khan, he just took three cruisers over a few weeks back.

He also took us over last year and sorted everything out, fantastic guy.

If there are few of you, you may find it about the same price to use the army raft, at the time they were asking about 4 x the price of the local boats, the raft would also be able to cope with larger vehicles, but ask Ayub as things may have changed.

I'm surprised Wuming hasn't chimmed in on this thread yet.

A bunch of bikes want to cross Tibet and are looking for a 4x4 to take the guide and reduce overall costs.

Karakoram Highway to Kyrgyzstan May / June 2012

I was in charge of a trip on KKH and arranged a two week long sightseeing tour with Vertical Explorers Tours. Here is the itinerary, we followed with an addition of a few other places. Vertical Explorers | VE Way China - India Borders's Detail; Vertical Explorers I contacted them via email (info@vepakistan.com) and arranged everything in advance. It was very easy and their price was extremely fair. Our guide met us at our hotel and adapted a tour which fitted in with our schedule and what we wanted to see. We found our guide" Saif " to be a really excellent guide. He was very informative but kept the tour interesting, helped in transferring our land rover across the Attabad lake and showed a variety of places. He was clearly passionate about what he was doing and delivered a good mix of stories, facts and took time to unexplored places to take photos and explore. He was also very happy to help us with restaurant recommendations. He clearly has a great knowledge of the Pakistan and contacts. His contact detail northernguide@gmail.com cell phone +92(0)341-9445841 You should not miss the following off road places along the KKH. Fairy Meadows, Naran Kaghan, Naltar meadows, Bagrot valley and Nanga Parbat base camp enjoy your trip!
