IRAN Petrol Urgent!

Hello.
I am driving from france to cambodia with a 600XT (2003)who works with unleaded petrol. In Iran they only offer benzin. My english and my mecanic khnowledge is not good enough to know if I can put it in my motorbike without any damages> Do you think I can put Benzin or leaded petrol? What should I ask for??
Thank you for your help. I am waiting in Tabriz with an empty tank...

Assuming your bike doesn't have a catalytic converter (pot catalytique en français) you will be fine. If they run cars on it you can put it into your bike.

Benzin is just another word for petrol.

Thank you so much for this answer!!! I was so stressed about it!

So I can put: benzin or super without any problem? What about the octane? Normally it should be at least 91.

In North of Iran we found mainly petrol at 75 or 81 octanes. It was 4 years ago, maybe now is better.

Anyway, my GS 1100 - which works with leaded petrol - didn't suffer any damage (in Central Asia we found only 72 or 75 octanes petrol, and the bike run without problems, except loss of power and vibrations).

About your bike, I'm afraid you're going to damage the catalytic converter.

I got 1100GS too, but with KAT and going to Iran. How long does it take KAT get's blocked (doesn't let emmissions out?) running on leaded petrol, anyone knows?

I tested my 1100 on 91 octan and it worked perfect, but it was unleaded, i guess there's no unleaded in Iran? And yet, i don't know how i can remove the KAT besides replacing the whole exhaust with aftermarket one which are too expensive for me...

Margus the lead in the petrol affects the metals that absorb the emissions. It doesnt get blocked as such but is chemically killed. It does not take much to do it. Best to get rid of the CAT and replace with a plain pipe, and put it back on when you get home, then it doesnt matter what grade of petrol but for performance. As Pietro said the bike runs on low grade petrol but not as well.

THANK you all very much for your help and kindness. I am now in Theheran with a tank full of benzin and my moto seems to accept it pretty well.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
