Entering Iran I found the Southern border crossing at Sero/Oroumyieh hassle free. It will be cold in parts of Iran.

Crossing Pakistan without driving on the KKH or visiting the incomparable Deosai is unfair with the tourist.
Keep in touch and we can make a complete plan and route for Pakistan and India.

Hi Omie, hope you and your family are all well.
As you know there are some major issues with the KKH at the moment but the situation will have changed by the time Stash gets there in November for the better we hope.
Stash keep an eye on what's happening up there as you may have to rethink your route.

Cheers
Pete

Hi Pete. Its nice to know you and Caf are back preparing for the next trip.
KKH is indeed in danger. 24 kms are submerged and 4 bridges are in danger if the landslide dam bursts too fast. We know its gonna give way but hopefully it would be gradual. Lets hope for the best.
However PBC is arranging a around Nanga Parbat trip which will involve some travel on the KKH ahead of Chillas. Everything should be clear by this week.
Regards

Hi Omar,
It's nice to here all the guys at the PBC are still keen to get out and about, please thank them all from us again for all there help and we hope everything is well with them.
We have been going through lots of bits and pieces since we got home and are in the process of writing to the guys that run the small hotel on the KKH, over looking Nanga Parbat, as always (in Pakistan) they showed us fantastic hospitality and courtesy, we do hope everything works out OK for them and there families.
Caf and myself would like to welcome you into our home anytime you find yourself in the UK.

Kind Regards
Pete

Thanks for your kind words and the generous offer Pete. I will certainly call on you on my next visit to UK. We plan to spend a night at the Nanga View hotel you mentioned on our way to Deosai. I find it the most fascinating place.

Well here's my rough plan for this trip. please let me know what you think.
I really dont want to go northern Pakistan, just through Karachi and than to the west to India. what's the best route after Karachi into India??

There is only one border crossing for vehicular traffic between Pakistan and India and that is from Lahore ie Wagah/Atari. It appears Stash that you will have to drive 1200 kms north from Karachi to Lahore first.
You cannot drive straight from Taftan (Irani border) till Karachi via RCD Highway due to law and order problems. If you really want to visit Karachi youl have to stick to the main roads and turn south from Sukkur.
In your plan youl be missing KKH and the north, well its your choice but I wont advise you. You can visit the 5000 years old cities of Moenjodaro and Harrapa on this route.

well thanx for the tip, I see your point. now I do go north from Karachi, I might aswell go into Nepal and than head down to india. it will be better like that I guess, and I wont miss the 5000 year old settlements.
can I come from India to Karachi from more southern point of India? is there problem only going from Pakistan to India or is it the same both way in or out?

Same both ways Wagah/Attari is the only crossing point.
