Iran - Nakhchivan - Turkey

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has crossed from Iran into Azerbaijan at the Jolfa / Nakhchivan border, crossing into the exclave of Nakhchivan?

I assume the regulations were the same as 'mainland' Azerbaijan, namely 72 hour transit without a customs deposit?

Anything else to pay??

Thanks

Daniel

I personally haven't but I think a few people do. Azerbaijan can be a headache with all the police corruption (from what I've read and heard). I went through Armenia and Georgia instead and had a blast.

Crossed "by foot" in both directions (Turkey, Iran).

Couple of months ago the border to Iran was closed for 1 week. Some local tensions, not sure what.

Jolfa/Iran is a relatively big busy border. Igdir/Turkey is a very small, exotic border post.

Foreign vehicle crossings have been done without problems. Sorry, don't know about costs.

Even if the 72 hour rule applies in Nakhchivan, this still sounds like a lot, lot of time in this tiny exclave.

Thanks Travelbug, good to hear. I have an minor interest in Islamic tomb towers and those in Nakhchivan and especially Qarabaghlar look very nice. I also have a major interest in poking around strange places, so Nakhchivan should tick those boxes.

My only worry is that they may refuse entry of my car as it is RHD... I heard rumours of such things happening in 'mainland' AZ, though I transited (72 hour rule) without anything ever being said about my steering wheel not being on the wrong side

There also used to be the issue of British passport holders being refused a Turkish entry visa at the border... Now I am German too, so no visa worries full stop
