I sure hope nothing comes of this. Being a "yankee" not living in America I'm not at all in support of it and would hope most other "yankees" aren't as well.

And by "yankee" I am assuming you mean American.

Yankee has very different meanings based on who is using it.

If you are a non-english speaker, "yankee" generally means someone who speaks english.

If you speak english but aren't from the US, "yankee" generally means an American.

If you are from the US but not from the north, "yankee" means someone from north of the mason-dixon line.

If you are from the north but not the northeast, "yankee" means someone from the northeast.

There is one more iteration inside the northeast but I can't remember what it is. Something to do with a specific city or set of cities.

To get back on topic, it's my big worry, too, at the moment. On the other hand, I crossed during the war and it wasn't a problem. As a traveller there isn't a great chance to be near a nuclear installation and I can't see an invasion happening.

As long as I can get a visa I'm going!

The nuclear installation recently reopened is reportedly just near Isfahan, it would be a damn shame if any of the city was damaged.

These rumors have been going around for a while, this is not really news, IMO, only rumors. Note the last paragraph which says: "...Although Der Spiegel could not say that these plans were concrete..."

Besides, going through Iran is not the only way from Europe to Asia. Going through Central Asia is also an option, and Afghanistan is a possiblity too.

The unknowns are what make this type of trip interesting. As one door closes, another usually opens....

Depends where you want to go. I'm off to SE Asia, Oz and NZ. Since China divides Asia in North and South I need (and want to be) South. I have to cross Iran or fly over it (or perhaps I can go via UAE, but that's a different ball game.)

Well, I'm about to apply for my visa...

The China portion is actually not that big of a deal. It adds a bit of extra expense to the trip to get the required paperwork, permissions and guide (approx $1100usd), but its certainly preferable to air shipment, IMO. And getting the paperwork is very easy through a Chinese travel agency. If Iran is blocked, this is the next best option.

I did this route a few months ago and it was an amazing experience.

The only disadvantage of this route is that it is not possible in the winter...

As an American, if you don't start traveling real quick, by the time he leaves office the Brits won't even let the Yanks visit (and I don't mean the baseball team).

that ***** called Bush is getting on his high horse to oblivion again....i say this....why can`t a country have what it wants if it can, especially Iran who have had their hands tied for so long.

we had one of the best times travelling in beautiful Iran, met some of the most friendy, generous and hospitable people ever throughout our RTW. they do not deserve to be told what to do by so called leaders. we have many friends there and i hate to think what might be.

perhaps it`s time to get back out on the streets to revolt and be strong.

Same for me - i had the absolute best time in Islamic Republic of Iran. It's beauty and especially the frendliness-helpfulness of people is unmached.

But the World Police (USA) act as they want you know... Iran has lots of oil (nuk program is just another serious "starter" reason hyped up by media and propaganda as it's always been on any war to show to public "this is bad country! Let's attack and invade them!"), but so they are just expecting another $$$ income with war as with Iraq that didn't went exacly as planned, so time to pick up new target if they're between Iraq and Afghanistan anyway where western forces are in.

How dear i can sit and see from TV they are doing that? All the stupid agressors should be voted down, Iran who never has attacked US. Any anti-american promotion rocks since the start of Iraq war that i thought was the end of this kind of stupid thinking, NO, $$$-taste is too strong still in their fat mouths!

I think that this topic is getting a bit out of hand.
The HUBB is not a forum for political debate. Many of you do not like America/American President, but please remember that for every opinion there is an opposite opinion. Many in the USA, Europe, etc. don't particularly like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (the president of Iran). But this is not the place for such a debate.
Discussion on how to get around if such a hypothetical 'attack' happens is fine, I belive. But lets keep the politics out of it. I am not deleting the current posts as of this time, but I would like to call on HUBB users to avoid political discussion.

sorry chris, all i wanted to do was voice my opinion about places we have visited and the feelings we felt. we travel to realise other countries and cultures.

i hate to think what might happen if Iran is treated badly for trying to advance.....nuff said.
