into china from the south??

hi all

i am planning my rtw trip and as you all know china is smack in the middle of it, most of the info i've found is of people trying to get in through the north or west borbers, dose anyone know anything about the southern borders ie. laos, napel or bhutan?? i know how to do it all by the book but having to pay up to 100 bucks a day for a guide isnt very appealing, cheers for any info

I

I have heard of a few (second hand ) making it thru to Lhasa from Nepal on Enfields. KKH from Pakistan is easy. No info on Bhutan or laos.

What's Your Route Trev?

Hi trev, whats your route? We're hitting China, on the way to Oz, in two years time, but probably a little later that you.....I think we will be into China around August/September time.

hi trev, try to keep out of big border crossing. You will have a more chances at a little unknown crossing. The friendship HWY is not good choice to get in china. As far as I know noone entered china through the southern borber with own bike without guide. You can try to get in china through the west borber and leave china through the southern borber towards Nepal.

Please enlighten us on how it's done. All the info I have read anywhere says you can't enter China without organising a guide and minder with vehicle at least 3 months in advance. If it's possible then I'd like to go there later this year to save flying.

Alex: you are right. But, there are no big crossings, only small ones closed to foreigners with vehicles.

Not the information I have been finding... in fact quite the opposite.

Do you know otherwise?
