Iran, UAE, Oman - Carnet?

We have a plan travelling to Iran in 2005 end of the summer and wanted to know that does the UAE require Carnet for motorcycle coming from Iran to UAE with ferry? And going from UAE to Oman, is Carnet needed there too?

We're attempting to enter Iran without Carnet via issuing temporary import paperwork on the Iran border (100-200$ (?)) so if there's no Carnet needed in UAE and Oman too we'd have high motivation visiting those countries too. Has anyone crossed recently Iran with out the Carnet (with temp. import)? Any advice on it?

Any information about those countries would be appriceated!

I was riding with a Swiss guy for a while through Iran, he was on an Indian registered Enfield and therefore had no carnet. He arranged documents at the border, not sure how much, but it wasn't prohibitive. Let me know if you need his contact details.

Sean, since you can't get an Enfield out of India with a carnet, and supposedly Iran requires a carnet, this would be good info if you can get him to post details here.

Hi,
Yep, possible to enter Iran without carnet, but you'll need it for Pakistan and India, not a chance without Carnet for these 2 countries.

Iran was surprisingly simple, had to buy an "insurance", was asked how much I was ready to pay.
Said 100$, was replied that normal price is 200$, just argued 10' saying that I didn't have money and that the bike was worth 300$ (had a fake invoice just in case). So got 10 different documents for that price (took 5 hours).
No other hassle.

Good luck

Yes, it's doable w/o the carnet.

Check HERE.

The only question is if you can exit the country from another point that you entered the country (i.e. coming from Turkey and going to UAE). We had to exit from the same border post we entered to give back that "temporary import" document we issued, giving it back was obligatory.

Don't give up hope tho! Check it, maybe it's still doable from exiting another border point.

Good luck!
