Has anyone used China Overland Info?

Hi all,

I'm just about to finalise the arrangement of some visas and permits for our trip through China using a company called china overland |china driving Travel |china self-driving

Has anyone used this company? If so can you give me some feedback? I just wanted to get some feedback before we send our deposit.

Many thanks,

Johno

Hi Johno, we r in zhongdian, coming from Laos (3 KTM and one truck) and heading towards Uzbekistan. We use a company called: Chengdu Panorama Tour Co., Ltd. (PANO), Tibet Reisen und Tibet Trekking, Selbstfahrt durch Tibet, Kailash Trekking | China Panorama; China Reisen und China Trekking, Selbstfahrt durch China | China Panorama

and we have had very good experience with them. The guy to talk to is Mr. Hongquan, all very professional. best and good luck

Just to let you know - we're currently in China using this company and are not very impressed: Hidden fees, impossible itinerary, not very knowledgeable guide...

We're going to be taking all this up with them when we are finished but I just wanted to warn anyone else.

And what were the hidden fees?
I was thinking of booking them too?

Any other experiences from others?

We are also planning travel to China next year but, from what I have learned from our local Chinese contacts, it would seem that a lot of these so-called tour operators are actually nothing more than glorified con merchants, cashing in on western travellers who do not have any other means of negotiating Chinese bureaucracy. Not helpful, but I wouldn't trust any of them.

true, guess so too that most of them are a rip of.
but what else can you do to get the required paperwork for the chinese customs and the temporary driving license for china.

as far as I know there is no real way around it, except for not going trough china.

No comfort, but Roynie came across an article today relating to changes in Chinese law, effective from October 2013, that aim to make Chinese tour companies transparent in respect of fees and itineraries. These changes were aimed not at the tour operators we have been talking about, cashing in on Western tourists to China, but Chinese tourists booking foreign holidays through Chinese tour companies. Nice to know they don't discriminate. They are just as likely to scam their own countrymen!

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
