Getting into Vietnam

Hi,

I'm currently in Thailand with my KTM 990 (registered in France) and I would like to enter Vietnam.

On various forums including I found many different informations about getting into Vietnam with a motorcycle.

Any recent news?

^ Yep, especially this thing might be worth noticing:
"The fees was:
USD 2,000 for the permit 4 bikes and 6 persons
USD 2,370 for one local tour guide"

Sorry to say, but the basic dilemma of customs not letting any foreign motorcycles into the country without very special (and costly) arrangements, does not seem to have changed at all.

There once was a persistent rumour, that under 175cc bikes would be okay to go there, and I was with a group of 8 people, we tried with 115cc scooters a total 5 times from 4 intl border stations in Cambodia & Laos. The rumour was false (I don´t mind, cos the trip was still fantastic!) But take anything that you read on the net about this particular subject with a grain of salt. I think someone just might get in "unofficially", too, but then it´s just his/her lucky day, so you can´t really count on that.

(.....oh yeah, and what the hell is a "BMV1200"???)
