can anyone tell me the route from london to singapore?.. or any good maps i can plot on line with. googgle world dont cut it..thanks tom

Easy: take any roads that take your fancy to ride to Turkey, cross Iran and Pakistan to reach India. Here you have some choices:

- ride to Kathmandu, then fly to Bangkok
- ride to Dhaka, ship the bike around Burma to Thailand or Malaysia, fly yourself
- organise a passage through Tibet and China to Laos with an agency

You can ride freely around Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, then Malaysia to Singapore.

If I do an average of 200KM per day,
take the shortest route frm UK to Turkey, ship my bike from Dhake to Bangkok...
How long will it take?
& How much money do I need?

Hi, havent done it yet, but im planning to go that way. It seems to be something in the neighbourhood of
-2000kms thru Turkey,
-some 3000kms in Iran,
-nearly 2000kms in Pakistan.
And i think it could be around 1500 in India, if you´d go straight to Nepal.

Note that all these are following the straightest possible route, and if you do any detours, it could be much more.

Im expecting to cover 300-500kms per day in Turkey & Iran (if needed, but Im actually hoping theres some time to spend in each country) and maybe 200-300 per day in Pakistan, as the roads could be worse there, and there might be police escorts, which go slowly I hear.. (and I´d be happy to hear someone who´s done this route, comment if these figures could be considered realistic or not?)

In India roads can be relatively ok, but the traffic is very, very bad & congested, so not planning much per day there, either. In a country like India its very easy to get lost, too, when theres junctions here and there all the time, and no signs whatsoever. Add that to the crazy traffic, and it might be very time-consuming and require plenty of patience to cover any distance there!

About money, I really dont know, perhaps someone more experienced can help..? But in theory anyway, these countries are cheaper than almost anywhere in Europe. Probably depends a lot on your choice of accommodation, etc as well.

Get up early, and start looking for a place to stay well in time, so you wont have to ride in the dark.. or at least thats the plan, though it usually never really works that well:)!!

Hi there ...

We are doing this journey in 2009 with a 4x4. We are not going via Turkey, rather via Russia and then loop through the 'Stans and hooking round to Iran and Pakistan. From Pakistan we hope to travel through China witha guide, and exit via Laos and down through SE Asia and onto Oz from Singapore.

Personally from what I could find out there are only a couple of real isssues.

1. Do you go through China, if so what entry point and what time of year.
2. If not China the only other non shipping route is via Burma. Apparently harder and more unlikely than China and might involve being airlifted into Thailand.
3. If you ship, where from and to? Bangladesh to Thailand seems quite the favorite.

When you planning on going? We have had some quotes for a guide, but not much joy from the embassy. It seems that they want an agency to do all the work of booking a guide.

ok guys i spoke to embassy they said go to travel agency. i then emailed the 2 britt girls who rode there tuk tuk from thailand to london via china they had to have guid it cost them around $9000 ...expensive... maybey im thinking ill go though iran and pakistan to india and then boat to thailand. would rather go the other way as would like to do it all overland..anyway keep me posted if anyone finds out more info. thanks tom
