From India to China by Bike

Hi all,

I hop to do a trip in Spring 2014 (Switzerland - Japan) and was wondering if it is possible to get from India to China.
I heard that you can enter China trough Tibet and Nepal from India, but it is hard to get a Visa to enter Tibet and you need to be a group of 5 with the same Passport.

I heard something about the Stillwell/Ledo road from India to Yunan(China)
But i did not found anything about if it is usable again...

So far the only way I found would be Pakistan and take the KKH to Gilgit and then to Kashgar in Xinjiang, China.

Anybody an Idea?

Thanks for the Information. I will check your Blog.
Was interested in where you entered China, but as you said from Kyrgystan and not from India :)
I will check that route too

At least a few years ago, no way to cross India <-> China, unless you're a local. Tourists even needed special permits for Indian areas close to the Chinese border.

Tibet is now open for any size of the group, find a good travel agency to appply the temperory plate and licence in three months advance. Same as entering China from Laos.
There were about 20 vehicles arrived Kunming from Calcutta India. The caravan travelled through Bangladesh and Myanmar to China. It was a 4WD ralley organized by the government so all permites and paper works were sorted out. I doubt the borders between these contries will open in two years.
