Lots of people fly this route. Have you checked the shipping database on the left?

In Ktm I stayed at
Kathmandu Peace GH
North Thamel
Can't remember the price, but I stayed there a long time, twice and it was good value.
GPS N27 43.089 E85 18.531

In North Bkk I can recommend
Bangkok We Train Intl. House
Parking inside the hotel compound
Rooms with bath, TV and AC 500 Baht = 11 Euro
Hotel is like a youth hostel
With swimming pool and restaurant.
Close to Don Mueang airport and very quiet!!
(Note that you will arrive at the other air port!)
info at we-train.co.th
We-Train International House
GPS N13 56.341 E100 35.058

Hope this helps.

Peter.

I'm really enjoying my stay at The Yellow House in Kathmandu. It's a 2 minute walk from the Thamel area and is very nice. It has a large garden and a good restaurant. I'll be there until this Thursday I think. Then buy an Enfield and back to India.

Paknajol, Kathmandu. It's on Paknajol behind and across Paknajol Road the Manang Hotel in Thamel.

How long are you staying in India?
Which way you going after that?

Nice Moustache!

I'm back in Varanasi, India. I bought an Enfield in Kathmandu and I'll be riding to Delhi on Monday. Not sure how long that'll take. I don't know how long I'll be in India. I really like Nepal and plan on heading back up there. Still want to tour the Enfield factory, visit Mumbai and Goa. I might be in India for 2 or 3 months? It's hard to make definite plans here.

India, then Nepal, then back to India. Should be wandering around here until January. I think the moustache will only last another 2 months. Then I can get the photo I want (where I'll pull it up to my eyes like Salvadore Dali with flowers at the end).

Quite a few of us shipped from Kathamndu to Bangkok a couple of months ago. The best guy to use it Eagle Eyes Cargo. He's a pro when it comes to shipping bikes. Everyone else I spoke to gave me a load of BS.

For my KTM 640 it came to a little under $600US all in, compared to $230 for my ticket.

He's located in Thamel - don't ask me where, it's like a warren.

Took us 2 days to ship. 1st day he measured the bikes and got the crates built. 2nd day we took the bikes to the airport, dismantled them and stuck them in the boxes.

We shipped our bike 3 weeks ago with Eagle eye export. We checked several agents and he was the cheapest and the most experienced.
His office is situated next to Helena restaurant in Thamel.

If you go to the cargodepot at the airport to crate the bike. Make sure you keep an eye on everything because they just start crating the whole bike with 5 people and they were not really careful. They damaged my frontwheel bearing, got a few big scratches on the bike... Try to slow them down a bit so you can keep an eye on everything. They just want it done as soon as possible...
This is not the fault of Eagle eye, more of the crating crew...

thanks... approx cost?

thanks duncan and Gert84 for the information.
Gert84 - what were your costs like?
and any GPS refs?

this is all sounding much better than we'd hoped. we are currently in India and had not wanted to have to re-enter India once we'd got to Nepal.

so - all apart from just checking on the most up to date approx costs with you Gert84 - all sounds positive!

cheers!

Lisa,

There is only 1 company that does cargo to BKK, Thai airways.
They charge:
1.37 + 0.07 dollar per kg
This kg is the real weight of the bike or the volumetric weight (based on the size of the crate), wichever is higher they'll charge you. If higher than 500kg the price drops to 1,07 + 07 dollar per kg.
Our Vstrom was 314 real weight and 320 volumetric weight (take frontwheel off, no side panniers, no windscreen,...)
100 dollar dangerous goods charge
2 dollar airwaybill charge

This is what you pay for Thai airways

Eagle eye cargo charges than shipping agent charges:
80 dollar for the crate
70 dollar for all the paperwork/customs/transport

562 + 150 = 712 dollar

In BKK we had to pay around 1500 baht for clearing and storage.

For your own flight: 2 possibilities Thai airways (flights every day 330 dollar) and Nepal airlines (Flights on monday and friday 230 dollar).

Helena restaurant is in all the guestbooks. It's on one of the main streets of Thamel. You'll find it. Eagle eye export is on the right of Helena's.
