Europeans taking Indian registered bike to Sri Lanka

Does anybody know if it is possible for europeans to take an Indian registered motorcycle to Sri Lanka for a few weeks? I suspect it is not possible but would like some confirmation or preferably a solution.

Unfortunately, you cannot. There are various reasons why not, firstly there are currently no ferries plying this route, secondly, Sri Lanka is a seperate country and to enter with a foriegn vehicle you would require a CDP, thirdly, unless you are an Indian resident, you cannot register the bike in your name, and without the correct paperwork, you cannot apply for a CDP. The only possibility you have with an Indian bike is to take it into Nepal, which is allowed, subject to a payment of 100 or so Rupees a day to cover Nepali roadtax.
