Enfield-Alley in Bombay or Goa

Hi
Can anyone recommend any Enfield dealers/mechanics etc or suggest the location of "Enfield Alley" in either Bombay or Goa. Every city has a street where all the shops selling the same stuff are located. Like Karol Bagh in Delhi (where Lalli Singh is).

Want to rent a bike or possibly buy a bike with a guaranateed buyback. Where do other travellers sell their bikes?
Cheers

not too sure - but can put you in touch with some bulletteers from Mumbai who would be able to help you - they are the inddie thumpers - by the way are you the newest member to them? - cos if thats the case - then just ask them.

Cheers

Hey Chris,
In Goa, check out the Anjuna Flea market every Wed at Anjuna Beach for bike sales, lots of travellers sell their bikes there, but as always you need to check them out carefully. If you go to Palolem Beach in south Goa, Ask aroung for for a guy named Meclin. He rents, sells and services Enfields in Palolem and he is a great guy, honest and reasonable. He keeps my 500 running in top shape. If you go to a restaurant called DROPADI right on the beach off the main street and ask for him ,they will directyou to him. I live in Goa 6 months a year and Meclin is the best guy I have found there.
Good Luck.
PS The main Enfield dealer in goa is Saini Motors in Margao.

this is fun...i know meclin..he tried to tune my bike after is was completed messed by the guy that should take care to it (not meclin). thats 3 years ago and he was an absolute beginner in mechanics at that time!! the work was never finished by hime... you know.. "i come tomorrow..." i would recommend him to no one. the best bullet mechanic available in south-goa, is Kisan in demani, cuncolim!! ask for him when u have any trouble with your bike!!!
he customized my bike, iz the most beautiful in south goa now!!! be sure!!

If you're going to be in Goa during the peak season you shouldn't have trouble selling your bike there. Many people end and begin their grand India tours there and are looking to buy.

Be sure to ride the bike and check it out. If you run into Enzo he's a walking RE encyclopedia.

Have fun! You realize of course you will be ruined for life. Once you ride in the chaotic beauty of India riding in the western countries is pretty dull.

If you make it to Mysore, look me up. I'm staying in India for a spell.

PS Hi Enzo,how was Thailand?

Poa 12 Jun 2005 11:36

Saw you mentioned Thailand. I live in Bangkok and have been dreaming of flying to India, buying an Enfield and riding back, any ideas on this. Probibly through the north, as myanmar/burma is not so easy to get through. So India-China-Laos-Thailand. Is it do-able?
Thanks,
Poa

Saini is in it for cash, do not expect favours. Buying- a ready to go 350 should cost Rs35000, when you sell, how much effort are you going to put in? It is tricky to get a decent price, everyone knows you are leaving and have little choice but to take what you can get. Beware spurious mechanics. Anyone with a spanner reckons he's a mechanic. In north Goa Dr Joe in Calangute, or Hannuman in Mapusa both know what they are doing, Dr joe can also be persuaded to store a bike at a reasonable price. Better Goa than Bombay if you are a little unsure, there are many unscrupulous people around and at least in Goa the "small town" set up of the place provides some safety. And as said above, India will ruin the rest of the world for you, there's nothing quite like it.
