Dhaka to Tehran by road
Hi guys,
I’m planning for a road trip from Dhaka to Tehran, As far as I know this particular rout used to be one of the prestigious routs in the realm of rally. But I want to know more about this rout, like - history, approximate length, probable check points, visa and other formalities (specially the Iranian part). It’d be a great help for me. See you somewhere on the road someday. Cheers. Towfik |
G'day Towfik, are you upset by your trip?

G'day simmo
Thanks for your reply. Yes simmo, I'm a bit upset. I've posted this topic in several categories three days ago and not a single reply except your's. I need the infos badly. Can you help me? Cheers. Towfik |
I was in Iran last year but came from Turkmenistan. Iran itself is everything people say, impressive architecture and warm people. You do need a carnet de passage en douane to enter the country, but this should be no problem from your motoring association. Of course you also need a visa.
There are lots of posts dealing wth the route in Southern Pakistan below the Afghan border, Pakistan police have been escorting travellers and guarding them in their rooms at night. My own experiences backpacking up the Karakoram highway were only good. They are still the best mountains in the world as far as I am concerned, and I played a little cricket in Sost with a home made bat! There are a few passes that have a bloody British history to them, The Great Game by peter hopkirk mentions a few. Were you referring to the "great trunk route"? between India and Pakistan. I dont know any rally routes. cheers alec http://users.netlink.com.au/~asimpson |
G’day alec
Thanks for your info. Good to know that, Iran is not a prob now. Visa is ok but I was thinking some other complications. Any way, you’ve been touring and I envy you. But, my best wishes with you. Ah! You play cricket, good. I’m a cricket fan. I’ve no idea about the ‘great trunk rout’. Tehran-Dhaka rally had it last in the early seventies. Reza Shah Pahlvi introduced this rally (when that I don’t know). It was sort of an alternative rout of Paris-Dakar rally. I’ve gone through your site. Nice photographs and quite informative. Keep it up. Cheers Towfik |
Grand trunk Road? maybe?
