crossing from Iran to Pakistan

Hello everybody!

We are a family travelling in Asia in our van.
After lost of attemps of getting pakistani visa in our way finally we have decide to send the passports to our country because it´s impossible to take in other places than yours, but now we have to decide how to get into Pakistan.
We have two options: crossing Afganistan from north of Irán and the cross the Khyber pass or get into by Taftan and cross Baluchistan.
The problem is that we are travelling with on little kid and don´t want to take any extra-risk. We think the second option is better but somepeople has told us that afters the flows of September 2012 the road to Quetta has been destroy, and now is not possible to do it in one day from the border to Dalbandin and other day from this place to Quetta. We did it five years ago and it was ok without any problem but now, if the road is not good conditios, is not going to be possible to do it like that with our old car that is not 4wd, and we don´t want to be half way in the middle of the nigth...

Please, we need update information (we are going to cross on April) about the condition of the road and, if anyone has recentlly cross thought Khyber pass, how is the process of the Afridi escolt and how long does it takes. Also the condition of the road Herat-Kabul.

Thank you very much!

Personally I´d much rather go through southeast Iran and western Pakistan, than through Afghanistan.... (that said, I´ve never been to Afghanistan, so I´m just relying on the news here.. the simple advice, however, seems to be: stay out).

Anyway, I´m not so sure that I´d feel comfortable having my kids with me, as both areas will have some safety concerns.

Hello,
A Turkish biker friend is just back in Turkey and gave a break to his transasia trip as Khyber Pass is officially closed until beginning of May.No current information about the road between ıran and afganistan available since last 2 years...

Quetta road is open and you have to follow many escorts between multan Pakistan and Kerman Iran.

More information needed about your current position and destination..
as where you are now and your current route....

All the best..

I have some good news for you, road between Taftan and Quetta is fine. A small patch around Jacobabad is damaged by floods but ordinary cars are crossing regularly, so dont worry.

Crossing the khyber pass is not an option although Kabul bikers club is vibrant and a trip to Kabul might be interesting.

Cheers

Omar

@arantxus and all friends on the way to Pakistan.

@arantxus and all friends on the way to Pakistan..

Some important tips. Just been informed by Turkish biker friend Hakan who is in India now.(Spirit of adventure travelling)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/doguyadogru/

1-Keep in stock much good quality drinking water for desert passes.
2-In Taftan, dont change money on streets.Telephone shop at the main square gives the best rate.
3-Good quality engine oil impossible to find in Pakistan.Keep in stock or have oil change timing in Iran or India..
4-In Quetta, you must get your NOC. certificate given by Home and Tribal Affairs Office at Baluchistan Secretariat. Address.Ground Floor..New Block..Tel...081-9201036...Open everyday between 8,30 am-2 pm except sundays.Fridays until midday...almost takes 1 whole day to get...

Wish you all the best

Loralai-Zhob-DI Khan is no more an option for foreigners as it is too close to Afghanistan.

All kinds and qualities of lubricants are available in Pakistan as long as you know where to look for.

Cheers
