China Travel Situation!?

Hi all
We are in Atyrau on route to China for the end of August. We have heard the new devolpments with the Chinese decision to restrict travel to "same nationality" groups of at least 4 and have also just had this message from David at Stantours:

"the Chinese visa has become a HUGE problem in Tashkent in the last few
days and so far there is no solution in Tashkent - Bishkek or sending
passports home being the only alternative. permits for Tibet is a
completely different story still."

Not sure exactly what the last bit means we`re awaiting clarification but for anyone on the way, like us, it doesn`t look so good at the moment?
Obviously things change rapidly but if there is anyone out there in the same boat it may be worth assesing your options?
We are looking at sending our passports back to London as we have plenty of time on our Uzbek visa and will hopefully be receiving some badly needed clutch parts in Tashkent, fingers crossed!?
Any update info from anyone in the know would be much appreciated.

Happy travels
Robin and Keely

Hi
Basically Tibet is closed unless you have a group of min 5 persons all of the same nationality!!!!
Been a bit of a blow for us all, its bad enought trying to find riders going the same way at the same time and now this i can see any groups riding in Tibet this year, we are taking the alternative route to Laos.

Tibet

As of June, Tibet has now been closed to ALL tourists, even organised same-nationality groups. There's no indication of how long this will be the case for.

yep, we just got an email about this a few hours ago.

It is looking like some very nervous days ahead as we look at our visas which all lined up nicely date wise, until China threw a spanner in the works.

We are looking for options, one of them may be shipping the bikes forward and flying in to meet them, but I am not sure on the feasibility of this as yet.

Cheers from Moscow

Security in Xinjiang has been ramped up of late things might calm down next year but who knows. The Gov placing restrictions on ramadan has made things tense.
