Can I leave Malaysia for a while without my bike - that I will take in with a carnet

The next part of my trip is Malaysia and Thailand. Does anyone know if it is possible to leave my carnet'd bike in Malaysia for a while (to earn some cash).

i.e. in Turkey the bike gets stamped into your passport so you can not leave without it.

many thanks

Hi Paul, its no problem to leave a bike in Malaysia. They normally dont even stamp the carnrt unless you chase them to do so, but there is no mention in your passport that relates you to the bike.

Do they both to check the carnet when you leave or do I need to chase them again on leaving? (Leaving both to Thailand and to Oz)

Hi Paul, they seemed to be very relaxed about foreign bikes in Malaysia, we actually needed to go into the customs house, and look up the right officials, who then stamped the carnet (did not get anything about the bike into our passports). They did not even come out to see the bike! This was on the main road border between Bangkok and KL.

If you got entry stamps to any country, however, then you must make sure, that you will get the exit stamps on your carnet counterfoil (the uppermost part of the page), or there may be trouble getting the carnet bond returned to you after the trip.
