Camping in SE Asia??

Hi.
My girlfriend and I are about to head off on a long trip from Australia, through SE Asia with the final destination being Morocco.

We will be 2-up on a Honda CT110 (Postie) so need to keep things super lightweight.

What we would like to know is, is it worth it to take camping gear through SE asia? Is camping, or wild camping, possible there? My experience in asia is that if there is enough flat un-overgrown space to pitch a tent then the locals would already be using it for something...

Is it just as likely that we can find cheap accom. (US$10-$15 a night)? As you can see we are on a tight budjet, otherwise I would have bought a GS... No Im just joking, Im not that crazy!!!

Should I leave the camping gear?

Believe me, in SE Asia you can completely ditch any tent as Guesthouses are just sooo affordable (Thai G/houses 120-150Baht/night {US$4?}, for example). And with personal transport to hand, you can get the cheaper places further out from the touristy strips.Sure saves lugging tents/dossbags around, eh!

Good luck! I hope to run into you two. I'll be heading to India end of May, and at some point trying to make my way to SE Asia. I love it when I meet people doing long trips on bikes that people say will never make it.

I wouldnt bother taking camping gear with me to SE Asia, as budget accommodation is really cheap..... and you'd probably be a big tourist attraction to the locals, if camping wild, it might be hard to find an uncrowded spot, in many Asian countries theres people literally everywhere.

Thanks guys.
You have convinced me to ditch the camping idea... This also means that my trusty 3-fuel stove should be abandoned too, not sure Im too happy about that, its got me through so many rough periods on the road, Id be lost without it.. We will see.
Dave, there is a very good chance our paths will cross, we plan (rather are forced!!!) to take it real slow, so I look forward to a chat. Good luck on the 2nd attempt.
Safe travels everyone.

camping s.e.a.

G'day Mate!:welcome: to s.e.a. :palm:
you were saying:
"if there is enough flat un-overgrown space to pitch a tent then the locals would already be using it for something..."
Sure there is.....

but why bother if you could get cheap hotel?
My mates own's 2 budget hotel. if you happen to be in KL just gimme a yell!
But if you ditch the tent/stove then you probably need to buy one,
once you reached remote areas wheres theres no hotel available:nono:.
You did say that youre going to Morocco right & camping at the Sahara with all the stars is a MUST!!
