Hi,

You can ride in and around Siem no probs at all, you just can't hire a bike from there, just one thing watch out for people that want to ride into you and claim on your insurance. you have been warned :)

The Motorbike will get you around faster, but... a bicycle will be much safer, the place is bloody huge, and don't for get to get up at 4am as the view of the sun rise over the ruins is completely amazing.

Did you drive to sihanoukville (can't remember the spelling) in the south, lovely beaches nice people and very very cheap to enter Thailand by Boat, it will save you going over the mountains.

The last time I was there I went accross the mountain, great riding but this time my wife will be with me so very little off road.
Thanks for the info

I rode into Siam Reap in the summer and found the cops to be a lil bit of a pain in the ass. I got stopped like 4 times on main streets for silly little offences or simply sulky *you, 1 dollar*, in the end just started waving them off and speeding up.

In ten days i would take a trip to the remote Northern Preah Vihear province; locals dont know much about the roads...but from Siam Reap there is a goodish road to Koh Keh temple complex wher you can camp and spend the day. From there you can go to Prasat preah Vihear easily within 3/4 hours...again you can camp there which is fantastic...

from there (assuming you spend 2/3 days in Siam Reap) i suppose you could loop back round via Kampong Thom to Phnom Penh and either ride back to Siam Reap or carry on to where you're going.

Also...the tuktuk drivers and hotels will tell you you cant drive round the Ankor complex but its perfectly allowed. They are just racketeering for the local Tuktuks and motos.
