Buy a motorcycle in India or Nepal

Hello, I want to buy a new Motorcycle in India or Nepal and drive home to Sweden. I wonder if anyone knows a good dealer that I could contact. I'm looking for a new offroad bike (Africa Twin, Dominator, XT600, XR650 or similar). All I found so far only sell Endields and Scooters. Any tips are most welcome. Kindest micke

Overland bikes are almost non-existant here in India and Nepal, that's why you can't find anything but Enfields and scooters on the net. Import duty on foreign vehicles is so high here that it's not worth manufacturers bringing them into the country. The one exception is BMW who imported about 100 650GSs a few years ago, but you'll be lucky to get your hands on one of those.
You could buy one in Thailand and ship/fly it over - or you'll have to go for an Enfield.
If you want any more info drop me an email.

Micke,

did your trip happen? where did you end up where buying a bike was concerned. I will be in Nepal from July this year and looking to buy a bike out there with the idea to ride it home to england after a year of working and living in Pokhara.

any advice please.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Harvey,

i'm going to be working in Nepal for a year as of July. I want to get a bike which i can use at weekends for in-country adventures and which, ultimately i may be able to ride home to UK.

Do you have any advice?

Thank you

Wyndham
