Borneo

So far, the best kept moto travel secret in South Asis is Borneo. First week of July is the Rainforest Music Festival in Kuching, Sarawak (East Malaysia) A fascinating event worth attending.

From there, a ride through Brunei and into Sabah is a slam dunk on beatiful two lane paved roads with zero traffic. Stunning scenery and since hardly anyone ever rides there, locals are not yet tainted.

If on a lightweight bike, you can even cross into Kalimantan from Tawou by passenger ferry and circle the entire island using logging roads with GPS coordinates soon to be published here or on my site. Warning: even in dry season this is a very muddy and difficult ride that took me three weeks just in Kalimantan.

Now the best part--Round trip for bike and passenger on an MAS flight is $450.00USD. Customs procedures take two hours on both ends but are smooth with plenty of help from officials. No bribes or hassles. Enjoy.

Sckoby, I am in this part of the world now. Note, however, the date of the first post, it is almost 3 years old. Ride safe, Hook.

Rentals?

Once again resurrecting this thread; Are there bikes for rent? Looking for 4-6 bikes. Not scooters. Anyone have any information? Thanks in advance.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
