Tyres in Iran..?

Hi - I have searched HU but to no avail....so my question it....
we are soon going to be heading off into Uzbek- Turkmen and then Iran - we are in dire need of new tyres and prefer to use Conti TKC80's as we have been doing for the last 8 years on the road.
Does anyone know of where we can get these or similar for BMW F650gs and a BMW R1100gs whilst in Iran?
or are we looking at just shipping them in?
Any advice and/or recommendations would be great

Sorry I´m no expert on this, because I´ve only spent a couple of weeks in Iran, and carried a set of spare tyres with me.

But one of the reasons for doing so was warnings that I´d got, about the possibility of some rather heavy import taxes on goods, that are ordered to places like Iran & Pakistan. Not sure, if these were true, or if there could be a way around them, as I never needed to order anything.

Also didn´t look to me that there are many big bikes in Iran, +90% of bikes seemed to be 1-cylinder 4-stroke, looked to me like poor or quite decent copies of Honda or other Jap bikes, dozens of different "brands", with only the text on the tank being different! Their wheel sizes probably wouldn´t match a GS.

But if you absolutely need to find the tyres, Tehran could be the place to try, as its a huge city, and some expats there might have bigger bikes, and possibly better information about availability as well.

Your best bet is either Almaty or Bishkek. Dimitrij (aka Dima), president of the local bike club "Totenkopf" has bike shops in both towns that usually stock tyres for big bikes, e.g. TKC80. Search for "Totenkopf Bishkek" on the hub and you'll get his mobile number from another post. He only speaks russian though. After Bishkek, the next place for tyres would be either Istanbul or DHL/FedEx in my experience ...

We found tyres fairly easily in Masshad (and they were 17", 18" would have been easier). There were plenty of motorbike shops, and we were guided to one which could get tyres and tubes in later the same day.

They were "Lone Wolf" brand or something similar and only 110 wide, so no Conti, but they lasted all the way from there to Denmark, and I was remarkably impressed (although I did have low expectations to start with).

Iran has a 150CC capacity limit for motorbikes, so just about all tyres that you find will be designs for a small bike. I think you will struggle to find tyres for a GS.

Does not usually stock bikes, but is known to assist on-road riders, may stock some tires, or be able to arrange with adequate advance notice.

It is possible to find tires in Iran, though it is pretty tricky. You need to ask someone who will know someone, who has a friend who... I bought mines, quite decent, in Esfahan. Thing is, many people drive heavy bikes, but on sunday (well... on friday), and kind of play with the cops, because its illegal. Some others have registered big bikes, that they can use under strict conditions, on friday. Go to a couple of motorcycle shops in a major city, and ask. You will surely find.
