Bike for sale in Goa???
 

Hello all.
I was wondering if any travellers had bikes that they had for sale in Goa at the moment....
I couldn't handle buying and learning to drive a bike Indian style in the bigger cities in the north and unfortunately i don't seem to be able to find much info on reputable sellers around Goa (maybe i just can't use the search function properly)
I'd consider any bike as long as it is in good condition...
Also does anyone know the legalities of foreigners owning bikes...or if i buy second hand should i really care....checking earlier threads people are just saying i won't come to attention (although my white Arai tour X might stick out from the locals aswell as my bright red Irish sunburnt head) with Indian plates and should avoid stopping for the cops

Buying bike in India

Whilst we were in India we stayed with our riends who live in Cavelossim, South Goa. When it comes to buying property, cars and bikes as a foreigner you CANNOT own it legally. The way to get around this is for you to buy the bike but an indian citizen/foreigner with residence status must register the bike (which then makes them the owner!)

I would imagine buying one from another traveller would be best, and with foreign plates the police do not hassle you as much as the locals.

The only other option is long-term hire which can be cheap in India. If this is an option then our friends may be able to help you out.

thanks i might have a local fella who would be willing to do this for me...i suppose if there are travellers out there with bikes for sale around Goa then please leave me know...otherwise i'll go the new bike option as i'm in india long term and renting would be too expensive...thanks for the help

You could always buy it in Delhi from Lalli Singh (excellent reputation for many years now) and simply put it on a train to Goa. The locals move thier bikes this way routinely. The cost is about the same as a second class sleeper ticket and the train employees are used to doing it (they pack it well). Lalli Singh will have no problem delivering it to the New Delhi rail station.

Also, since Lalli has been in the business of selling Enfields to foreigners for so long, I am sure he has the paperwork hurdles all sorted out. He has a web site with an e-mail address so I would reccomend at least asking him about it.

you can get my 7 years old yamaha xt600 for only euro 6000.-
2500.- for the bike, 3500.- for the carnet!

Hi mate
I found it just as easy to rent a bike in Goa.The local boys are more than helpul,&,you only need to rent the bike for the days that you need,some days you just can,t get off the beach.
I remember renting a Honda 250 (brand new)to ride to Hampi ,the boys never ask you where you,re going,just rely on trust that you,re going to bring the bike back.
Unless you,re feeling suicidal I,d not go for the Enfields,the brakes are so bad (drums)that,when you,re going downhill you,d be better of throwing an a nchor with a bungee ljne attached to it,they,re more expensive to rent too!
Go for one if you,re a fashion victim but,expect to expend a lot of energy trying to kick-start the bloody thing!There,s a good reason why the British motorcycle industry went to the wall.

Not sure what your schedule is, but I've got an Enfield I was planning to ride down to Goa and sell. I'm still up in Rajasthan, and wasn't planning to be down there until the end of November, so it may not work with your schedule. Advantages of Enfield: cheap, fun. Disadvantages: See above (although I'm notably not suicidal and it's not quite so bad as previous poster makes it sound.) Anyway, let me know if interested.
