Adventure or just madness???

3 of us are planning to fly to Mumbai, buy 3 brand new royal enfield bullets and ride them home to the UK....
This would be our first long trip, so all help and advice gratefully received...

1. can it be done inside 4 weeks?
2. would the bikes be able to cope?
3. trip safety (Iran/pakistan etc)
etc etc

Please help

cheers

Andy

You might need to check out the issue with getting a carnet de passage for an Indian registered bike. As far as i know no-one will issue one. This means you would probably have to transport the bike through most of Pakistan by truck or train (although i have heard of a few bribing their way in). Getting into Iran is possible without a carnet.
Another option I think is to buy in Nepal- more expensive but a carnet can be issued apparently.
Iran is safe, unless someone decides to drop bombs on it. Pakistan is a little bit hairy, but the people seem friendly towards foreigners and you will be given a police escort in the west (Baluchistan) if there is any danger considered likely.
Take spares and some know-how.

See my response to your query on another thread. (Could I mention that it helps you and us only to post on one board)

Be clear. Putting the bikes on a truck means smuggling them in. They are not legal, whether you ride them, truck them or teleport them through Pakistan.

You have to get both in and out of Pakistan remember. Two smuggling operations.

Up to you.

If you need any information on carnets, Paul Gowen at the RAC is very knowledgeable and helpful. You can get the number from the RAC website.

Four weeks sounds pretty tight to us. We've heard of someone who did it in 17 days but that was driving flat out in a London cab with no time to stop and look at the countries on the way.
