60 day Indonesian Visa
 

Hi guys,

I've done some searching around on here and have found bits and pieces but was wondering for some current advise.

I'm in sydney and went to the Indonesian consulate who said it wouldnt be a problem to get a 60 day visa. Once it has been issued, you have to start it within 90 days and then its valid for 60 days from that date. However, my only hurdle which I have not heard anybody else ever mention is that they told me i have to have a sponser. Like a resident or citizen to provide their details and basically vouch for me. They even said a letter is required from them with their details.
Can anyone share their recent attempts to get this visa and how they did it. And also, there wouldnt be any chance of an Indonesian citizen on the hubb who I can maybe get in touch with and get to know via email etc who once they've spoken to me would be able to do it.
Really appreciate any ideas and thoughts.

thanks for your reply. I guess that is an option. I just really wanted to have my first two sorted before i arrive (my timor and Indo ones).
I'm on no real time schedule so I guess I shouldnt be too stressed.

Still interested to hear anyone's experiences.

timor first: this is super easy to do on arrival, provided you have $30US (double check this figure). this gets you 30 days, which i believe is easy to extend. there is one trick to be aware of: you will be given an arrival card on the plane, which will ask what your departure date is. but 30 days from your arrival date. there is no penalty for leaving early, and if you put less you will only be issued a visa for that long (at the same cost)

are you in touch with the indonesian consulate in australia? we found them imposible to deal with. they wouldn't answer the phone or respond to email, seemingly made up strange requirements (as appears to be happening to you, as you do not need the letter), and took weeks and weeks to issue our visas. by contrast, dili takes 3 working days and they are used to doing it

i suggest you speak to rita at east timor backpackers in dili. alongside having the cheapest beds in town (it's best to book ahead), she can tell you what is required and where to go (at no charge). you'll need 2 passport photos with red backgrounds, which you can grab in dili, but it may be simpler to grab these in ausieland

looks like this is what I will be doing.. Just rocking up to east timor and getting their visa on arrival. I did find out on the Timor-Leste consulates websites that you can get a pre approval thingy for a 90 day visa but if the 30 day one can be extended, that is what I shall do. A lot I want to see in Timor.. Then I will organise my Indo one whilst there.

Did they ask bank account information (proof of enough money to survive Indonesia)?

Indonesian embassy in KL also mention this invitation letter if you apply more than 30 day visa...

If more than 30 day visa is requested, then you need to fulfill also General Requirements ->
- A guarantee of the available of funds to cover living expenses while in Indonesia (e.g the last 3 months bank statements or traveller's cheque)

Would it be easier to apply visa in Penang or in KL? Any experiences?

Here is the email address of a visa agent in Singapore who sorts my Indonesia visa's for me. I can thoroughly recommend their service. Same day service means I can go to sing o the evening flight then return the next night. Saves me loads of money as long as you get the tickets for the right price.

The advantage of the 60day (social) visa is it can be extended 4 times at a month each time,giving a total of 6months.

everytime i forget what is required so here is the cut and paste of what he sends me...

1. Passport must be valid more than six months.
2. Two clean passport pages for visa stamping.
3. One recent colour passport size photo. 35mmX45mm or 4cmX6cm. Any colour background. Scan photo is not accepted.
4. Clear copy of the sponsor letter + Copy of the sponsor's KTP. You may follow the previous sample, just change the date.Please email me the sponsor letter.
5. Visa will be done within a day and the fee is $Sgd160.00. Fee includes visa cost and service. Receipt will be given.
6. Meeting point at Forum Shopping Mall (next to Hilton Hotel). No. 583 Orchard Road. Find us under the red canopy of McDonald (smoking area). We will be there from 9a.m. to 11a.m. Monday to Friday. Passport will be back at the same place around 4.30pm.

You'll notice When using these guys you dont need an onward ticket. But you can always print and cancel anyhow if you choose another method.

Or you just get a 60 day tourist visa, which also is easily extendable 4 times. Easily available in Kuala Lumpur, East Timor and Hanoi (own experience) and Singapore (told more than enough times to believe it.

If you ain't got the time to wait the 4 days (which honestly I can't belive) it usually takes, every embassy offers express, so rather than paying an agent, just do it yourself for less, even express.

edit: obviously the advantage of a tourist visa is, that it doesn't require a sponsor or a letter when applying for it (extending of course does requiere a sponsor) And it might have changed since I've been around (almost 2 years ago now)

I try to get visa sorted in KL or in Penang (already been in Singapore).

No idea of the route yet, should maybe buy a map and then make some decisions :).

You do not need a sponsor for over 30 day tourist visa?
Waiting for 4 days is no problem :) I have been mainly worried about this invitation letter / sponsor thing.
I will go and visit the embassy in some weeks from now and get it without agent.

I didn't, and I got 3 Indo visas (2 months all of them), twice for me (KL and Hanoi) and once for a mate (Dili, East Timor)

All I needed was:

- 2 free pages in my Passport (valid at least another 6 months)
- passport photos

also they ask for your route planning and entry/exit flight tickets, which is easy enough to get around, all you do is tell them you enter by ferry from Port Klang, no advance ticket booking possible, and exit through the land border with East Timor or ferry to the Phillipines, or ferry to Singapore or land border with Papua New Guniea,... depending on your route one of them will also probably be true.


edit: oh yeah, and you need photocopies of some pages of your passport, I think picture and visa of malaysia or something, but there is a photocopy booth right in front of the embassy in KL and in Dili and hanoi its very close by as well, in case your portable xerox broke :)

Got my 60 day Indonesian visa from KL.
Process was simple and fast.
Filled out the form while waiting my turn.
Had 2 passport photos (1 year old photo was not good anymore, because my hair is quite much longer now...).
Needed to have a copy of my passport page and also Malaysian stamp page.
I didn´t have ferry/airline tickets and this was ok.
I told them my rough plan (enter to Sumatra and exit to east-Timor).
Cost was 170RM and I was able to pick the visa on a next day.
