Who´s done the Amazon recently?

Hola- We´re looking into doing a boat trip up the Amazon for a few days, either from here in Peru or from Equador.

I was told that the stuff accessed from Iquitos in Peru might not be that great now as a lot has been cleared and getting there will involve quite a detour.

Would we be better catching a flight from Quito to someplace?

Has anyone got any suggestions??

Cheers

Puerto Maldonado

3 years ago more or less i flew from Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado. From there I arranged with a travel agency to go down the Madre de Dios river and spend few days in the jungle in a lodge. Lots of wildlife, excursions etc can be arranged. Can't remember which company we used but a research in google should be enough.

This one for example:

Have a good time and keep us posted!

Cheers Maria.

We think we´ll go to the jungle from Equador now, as the route to Iquitos is a bit of a detour for us.

Hows your trip prep coming on?

Highly recommend any trips to Manu out of Cuzco. Not a lot of choices but some of the last unspoiled amazon cloud forests. If you enjoy birding, it's a must do. Did Iquitos some years ago. Canopy walkway etc. It was ok. Did not enjoy Iquitos.

Hi Mike!
We're planning to flight to Bogota in May, and then spend some time in Colombia before heading south. Still lots of stuff to organise and buy, sort out the house etc... Starting to be a bit scary! I'm keeping an eye on your progress via your blog!
