Where To Do Bike Maintenance In Santiago, Chile

Hello,

Im traveling through South America, and am a few days away from Santiago, Chile. I need to do some bike maintenance: change motor and final drive oil, adjust valves, clean air filter etc. I prefer to do the work myself instead of hiring a mechanic. I have all the necessary tools with me.

Can anyone recommend a place where I can do this? Primarily looking for an oil pan, a place where I can dump the used oil and a workspace.

Thanks.

H

He has my bike right at this moment and since yesterday afternoon when I arrived, he has been extrememly helpful. I would suggest though that you pay him to do the oil as he is building a business up and it would not be expensive, just mho.

Cheers

[begin thread drift]

Hey Richard, you and the Motorcycling Cast of Thousands are all in Santiago, or did you press on ahead of the teeming hordes? I'm leaving Mendoza tomorrow, sticking to the Argentina side for speed's sake to Ushuaia. Just got done replacing and repairing much of what was worn or threatening. Let me know if you'll be jumping the border on your way south.

Hi, I sort of rode solo, but met again some of the horde in the same hotel

I will know today whether the ferry is cost effective, but I would like to ride the Chile side down, whatever, I will ride tomorrow south, I will let you know what I decide and I know I want to do some of the Rota 40

Cheers

That sounds like a plan. Give work to the local business is always a good thing. Anything to stay away from the BMW dealer. Do you think he'll let me help with the more technical things?

Also, what's this ferry you are talking about in the previous post. Is there way to cross in to Argentina farther south and not through Mendoza?

Thanks for your help.

Hi

He was very helpful and I could do as much as I liked, but as he had the tools, I let him do what needed his tools to do, like all the bent bits etc. He would no doubt let you do an oil change yourself, just buy the oil from him, keep him sweet

The ferry was down south througha ll the fjords, it was way too expensive and I decided with brand new tyres I would ride, that is what I am here for after all

Cheers from Osorno

Still Ahead of you!

Yo H
How far off Santiago are you? we are still here but will be heading out tomorrow to blast down the '5' before a couple of days off near the border. one of our group now has 3 contacts for BMW trained mechanics that don't charge like wounded rhinos! PM or email me for more details. Hope you liked the Galapagos, might see you heading South.

I was really hurtin for a rear tire and ended having one shipped to me in Arequipa. I was hoping to snatch a used one in Bolivia but that didnt work out.

I heard that the Dakar was near so I skipped Bolivia for the time being and headed straight in to Chile to see it. Ill hopefully hit Bolivia on the way back north.

Famous box???

Thanks for the recomendation. These guys were the best. They let me help with the bike maintenance, and we got it all done in record time. Afterward I went to lunch with Paul. Most excellent experience.

Highly recommend these guys to anyone needing maintenance and passing through Santiago!!!
