Question Where to buy insurance in Mendoza/Argentina?

Hi guys,

we are flying into Mendoza and would like to buy insurance for our bikes downtown Mendoza. Any office or company to recommend? Personal contacts? Tel. Numbers? Do we have to insure the bikes in Argentina for sure?
I think a lot of people are still driving without insurance...

Yes or no?

Thanks - Jens

Dos Alemanes on the road...next week!

See you at the 2nd HU Meeting Germany

I don't know where to get insurance, but I know where there are bike shops and they may be able to help you more (anyone who buys a bike from them will need insurance after all):

East of the 40 and the Bus Station there is a Honda dealer on Av Jose V Zapata. West of the Bus Stations there is a Suzuki dealer on Bandera de Los Andes. South of the Honda place about two blocks is a BMW place on Morón, and there are a few more places in that general area that we fopud when we were looking for a rear tyre. Otherwise ask a few bikes once you're there, or even contact Dakar Motos in BA for pointers. Just because the bikes are in Mendoza, probably does not mean you have to buy the insurance in Mendoza.

All these dealers were there two years ago, so they still should be there.

ATM seguros

Jens lot of us locals use this company. They have agents in Mendoza capital.
They charge only 35 pesos(10 dollars) a month for the basic(third persons) legal raod insurance.
You need copy of title, drivers license.Take a few days to do the full paperwork.Need to pay two month and they give you provisory cover for using bike.

Mercosur insurance in Argentina

Bought Mercosur insurance today from ATM Seguros in Mendoza
Tried to buy in Chile from a number of companies but the answer was always no
They will sell you SOAP, which is only good for Chile, no Mercosur
However no one asked for it at the border so it was easy
There current address is
Bartolome Mitre 870
Edeficio Zod
Third Floor , office eleven
No English spoken but very helpful
One year was $1344 Argentine Peso or about $75 US for a year

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
