Colombia seems to be ok postal wise as far as customs and safety is concerned but you're always going to be better off with DHL etc.

Whats a "spot" anyway???

DHL and Fedex, they both work in Colombia.

I'd recommend DHL tho, their offices are modern and trustworthy in the bigger cities and the locals tell me they have a slight advantage over others in terms of customs procedures. Go figure.

I sent my Ohlins shock to USA for service from Bogotá few days ago with DHL - got a call in the evening from narcotics police - since gringo tourists are the main trafficers for small smuggling jobbies in Colombia. They checked my address, my name etc and I hope they didn't destroyed my shock to search dope inside But looks like they didn't find any coz the DHL tracking system shows the shock should arrive to destination today Hopefully it comes back in one piece too...

So expect the narcotics police to check it on arrival too! (some delays and strange phonecalls from the police questioning you )

Note that when you send it w/o temporary export paper, the reciever will be liable for Colombian import tax - between 20-30% of the market cost of the product. Spot isn't that expensive product I hope?

Take care, Margus

Have always heard that DHL was the best way to ship to SA, but...... it is my understanding that DHL as of Jan. 1st has shut down all there USA operations. Anything shipped into USA by DHL will go by fed X or UPS once it gets here.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
