Villazon, Bolivia Border crossing

I'm considering crossing from Argentina into Bolivia at the town named Villazon on the southern border of Bolivia directly north of SanSalvador de Jujuy, Argentina on Argentina Ruta 9. Has anyone crossed the border at this town and does anyone know if the crossing is open seven days a week, is the crossing closed for christmas, can they process all the paperwork, is it an easy crossing, etc. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Was there about 6 years ago on a Sun and the Bolivian customs guys seemed to be working a 9-5 Mon - Sat routine but the single copper on the bridge was quite happy to let me go back and forth and advised me to stay on the Bolivian side for cheap accom. and pop over to Argentina for eats. It worked for me as they say. Ride safe.

Yellow fever requirements

Does anyone have current information as to if a yellow fever vaccination is required to enter Bolivia from Argentina. I thought it was only need if entering from Brazil but a search of the hubb didn't show any recent information and i been told its required of everyone now. thanks

Just crossed Villazón to Argentina 2 days ago.

I crossed into Argentina heading south 2 days ago.

The border is one of the smoothest I have encountered thus far. I am not certain about the availability of obtaining a visa as a US citizen, but three years ago when I got my visa for Bolivia (its good for 5 years), I needed a Yellow fever vacination card that I got in Peru before crossing over.

I would suggest that you make an effort to get the yellow fever card, and if not, just bribe the Bolivian customs officer if you are not above that kind of practice.

I really don´t think you will have a problem entering into Bolivia at that entry point.

Thanks Alex - Are you following Ruta 40 south?

Ruta 40 south

No. Actually, I rode to B.A in 2 days, and am in Campana with an Argentinian biker friend that I met on the road south. I´m meeting a friend tomorrow that is going to buy my bike, and then I am heading home a week later. I´m at the end of 8 months of my journey. Time to get back :)

I'm leaving from Rosario riding to Villazon and was hoping the distance can be done in two days. It sounds like you rode from Villazon to BA in two days and that's four hours farther than rosario. How difficult was it to make in in just two days?

I cant begin to tell you how envious I am of you for finishing your adventure. I've been chipping away at mine for two years now and can't seem to keep work from interfering.

Yellow fever vaccination is required for entering Bolivia regardless of entry point. It is not always asked for but is a legal requirement.
Cheers
