Easier to have TITLE mailed

to a Guat address than to continue south w/o one?

opted to not bring my CA title ( I have Registration)as riding mate did not have one either. The mate blew his engine and could not continue.

SO! please chime in. Mail TITLE to an address in GUAT..................... OR
SCREW IT! CONTINUE ON.

this is not sparks i'm his ca riding bud. cheers, thanks!!!

Hi Sparksfriend,

Guatemala is a nice place to relax for a few days while you have a friend mail your original title. Or you could have it overnighted to DHL in Guatemala City it you are pressed for time. For peace of mind if nothing else. You got into Guatemala without your title and I imagine you can make it to Panama and back without it. I had my original title so am not sure how much hassle it would be. But Honduras def. wanted to see my original titulo when I headed through there a couple months ago. As did the rest of the Central American countries. Pasaporte, titulo y licensia were always needed. Along with copias of same in varying quantities.

Your Canadian Registration is your titulo. Do not worry about your title, what is a title for a Canadian anyway? Original bill of sale?

I think there must be some confusion here about what people mean by "title." Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I cannot fathom that John Downs got asked for his "title" everywhere, while I went to all the same crossings and all anyone wanted to see was my "registration." People handed back my title when I offered it as well.

There are lots of Canadians about in South America, and AFAIK all of them got there without "titles." However, they've all got registration documents. I think.

I am going to Assume that CA = Canada not California and let those familial with the Canadian system answer your question. I am posting only so those reading this in the U.S. take there original title (or a real good copy) as I was required to produce mine at every crossing in South and Central America. If anyone gets trough on a registration paper it is only because customs official does not know what they are looking at.

In all states registration is not proof of ownership only that you paid license fees for the year. All boarders will demand proof of ownership

Agree: read replies to your other post.
I will take this opening to vent about a major peeve I have about inaccurate abreviations as Road Hog points out. CA could also be taken to mean Central America ,cum anexis ,... and any number of different applications. Where did it come from , this silly practice of finding two letter designations for all the countries and Canadian provinces when perfectly usable long established abreviations were already formalized. CDN is the 3 letter symbol for Canadian and Canada , instead CA is now showing up. Must every thing be re -invented to satisfy the computer nerds who write the programs for the postal sorting system in the USA and are obviously ignorant and oblivious to the fact that they are adding confusion with their overlay on systems which were already accepted as international standard. ? They are trying to invent the digital wheel.

Any Canadians had any issues with "expiring" registration documents in Central and South America? My Canadian insurance will expire on the road, but since this is the only document we have proving ownership, will my Canadian insurance expiring be a problem?

Hi Marinomi. We had no issues with expired license plates (British Columbia) or expired insurance. Officialdom in Central and South America is only interested that the number plate and VIN match what is on the document. Now, arriving back in Canada is another issue. We flew the bikes back, renewed plate and insurance before picking the bikes up at the airport. However, if you plan then to ride back through the US to Canada with expired documents, not sure how to handle that.

That's what Photoshop is for. If you opt for this approach, make sure you scrape the decal off as well.


But whatever you do DO NOT try this in the US or Canada. Our computer systems are all linked and you'd just be asking for trouble. Fraud charges come to mind.

I was faced with a similar problem but managed to do an "early renewal" before I left BC, after explaining my problem to ICBC. ICBC | home

At that time they told me that another option is to give someone else official permission to renew for you. This has to be in writing and they (your contact, not ICBC) can then send the new registration to you. Call them or email them to find out exactly how to do this. Less information is better. You're not available to renew it yourself ...that's all.
