CO2 catridges?

Has anyone seen CO2 cartridges in SA? I'm thinking of having a second wind pump as a back up to the 12v pump I carry because of it's size and I can also use it on it's own here in Aussie. But I'm not to sure about flying with a cartridge so thought to possibly find on in the larger or capitol cities.

Not sure where there would be cartridges, but I chose the hose with the one-way-valve that threads into your spark plug hole.

Much lighter and never runs out of pressure: DennisKirk.com - Stop & Go Engine Air Pump w/Adapters and Hose

I have looked at those, and even considered getting one. That was untill I actually had to pull off the spark plug cap of my duel spark F650. Couldn't get it done with the leaverage you get without taking any body work and airbox/ batter box off.

That's why I got to the second wind pumps.

Are those cartridges any worse under pressure than deoderant?

pumps

The pump running off cylinder air is a nice way , I have one , but unfortunately it does not work on single cylinder bikes without a kickstarter ( kill the battery ) and the bikes with high power electronic ignition are not suitable because you may damage the electronics by running them with a sparkplug lead disconnected and not grounded properly (BMW). Also the electrocution hazard to worry about.
Then there is the problem of easy access to any of the sparkplugs in the tightly packaged engine arrangements which may require removal of the tank or other bits- more work, not good if you are stuck off somewhere in the dark on a strange road or trail.
Don't know about South America but in Central America I've seen TipTop tire repair products advertised at shops so I imagine they may carry the CO2 cartridges. Your best bet is to carry a good old fashioned hand pump, or buy one when you reach SA

try the better (upscale community) bicycle shops - Mtn. bikers carry these (or at least, they used to).

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
