Tyres Across Borders??

Hi there,

Has anyone tried taking spare tyres across borders, in particular US/Mexico?

I know you get stung with duty and 'extras' when things come by post, but what about when you bring them yourself??

I guess we could try disguising them as something else http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif......any ideas??

Thanks Sian..

sian
i have regularly had an 'undisguised' spare back tyre going across land borders in latin america (incl. usa-mexico at douglas,az-agua prieta) and had no problem at all.

i have found latin american land borders to be very easy. just have patience, show respect, and in central america invest 1 or 2 bucks in a 'tramitador' (helper).

nowhere is it necessary to offer/pay a bribe to a customs official.
enjoy

Hi Sian,

There is a discusion somewhere on the HUBB about this topic. You could easely find it with the search function.
From what I remember it should not be a problem, but check the discusion.

Good luck
Maarten

Thanks for the info Chris, good to know it has been done before.

And thanks to Maarten for the reminder to use the
search option. By the way when will you be in South America? I have a feeling our paths could well cross...

Sian..
