tyre (17 inch) Paraguay/Uruguay

G´day all,

Had a wee search but could not find tyre specific info form the guays. I am back in Salta and heading for the Iguazu falls. Want to avoid carrying spare if possible. Currently running MT60 (130/80/17) rear that doesn´t have a hell of a lot left.

Are tyres easy to come by in Asuncion or should I buy now in Salta?

Head to Uruguay after Iguzu falls (as an aside any route suggestions from salta and from Iguzu falls - must be in BA, Argie by 23rd June).

Regards in advance.
AL (KLR 650, but often dream of R100GSPD)

salta - Paraguay & Tyres...

Hi AL,

I rode the reverse of what you´re about to do a few weeks ago. If you haven´t already been I recommend SW to Cafayate either via the Enchanted Valley and Cachi then down Ruta 40 or straight down Ruta 68 (Late afternoon is best). Both routes are beautiful (I did rode both). From Cafyate through Tafi de Valle (beaufiful free camping spot at the far end of the lake from town) and then descend to the plains through a very green and pleasant valley. Then its 1100km of flat, straight, hot boring as f@#* all the way to Paraguay.

I too hate carrying tyres but for what it´s worth I would on that route. It´s only a few days and will save you looking around later. I bought a MT21 front in Salta from 'Division 2 Ruedas', Jujuy 342, Salta. They gave the best price in town for a MT21 21" front (AR$257) and quoted me AR$390 for a MT60 rear.

Make sure you're ipod is fully charged for the plains!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
