transfer ownership with falsified papers
hello guys!
i'm interested in buying a motorbike (kawasaki klr) in ecuador from a american guy. the bike is registrated on him, but the permit is expired, long time ago. he's driving with falsified papers ... we have to transfer the ownership ... but how do this with falsified papers?

i'm heading to tierra del fuego, via peru, bolivia and argentinia.

i'm looking forward to answers and help from you!

Falsified ownership papers (registration, title) or falsified temporary import papers?

Photoshopped ownership papers might get you by in South America if convincing. Lots of people do it this way. But legally speaking you don't own the bike until actual genuine documents are transfered in the jurisdiction where the bike is actually owned (somewhere in the USA), and neither does he. This can present obvious problems at some point if anyone notices, particularly if you intend to return north with it.

The rest is up to your imagination. But while you're exercising your imagination, it's appropriate to wonder whether this guy really does own the bike. How would you know this? How could he prove it?

I express myself wrong! I meant "falsified temporary import papers". He owns the bike nad he has a legal title.
The thing is, it doesn't make sense to transfer the ownership to me, until the bike is illegaly imported in Ecuador. How to manage this? Does anyone made experience in the near past? Is it commendable to cross the border to Peru and there to transfer?

Export the bike together, transfer ownership between borders, enter under new ownership.

Whoever imports the bike has to export it.

transfer the title in the US and get a black market false temporary import permit. There's a auto market in Quito where you might be able to find a suitable criminal, but beware - those sorts of places are full of criminals!

I'm not sure any of us do, but it has made me laugh this morning :-)

Your info was helpful IMO, and as a European riding a UK registered bike in Central and now South America I don't see any reason to falsify documents, I just use the proper channels and get it sorted.

Agreed, and that way you do not have to worry about the falsified import documents. (Or photoshopping anything)

How do you do that?
How do you do that exactly, as the transfer of ownership takes place back in country of origin, so takes 3-4 weeks at best including shippings docs back and forth

I am trying to sell my UK registered bike in either CHile in Argentina and am scratching my head as to how this works.
