TOO CRAZY to go to Tierra Del Fuego in MARCH?!

Could not make it for Dec. and therefore will delay trip 'til March '09. Any suggestions?!

Thank,

Greg

I made it down there in mid March earlier this year. You are going to be cold! I had 6 layers of clothes on and was still freezing (no heated riding gear though). If you can make it down there any earlier then I would do that. I still enjoyed being down there when I went, but I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more with nicer weather.

I have been there two times in January in 06 and 07 and it was cold then.

went twice in March (1986 and 2005). Was cold but ok. (in April I hit snow though)
Pro is that it is a lot less crowded, most tourist are gone and the autumn colours are stunning!

I recently met a Japanese RTW traveler on his Africa Twin that has been there in June this year. He said it was snowing on the mountain pass, but he still could ride safely. No doubt it must have been cold. I think he is the crazy one, as he was heading for Canada end November. I got a mail from him saying it was -10 degC when he was there.

So I gues it can be done, but I certainly would not enjoy it!
We've just came down from Alaska (September) and tempratures were just above freezing most of the time, that would be my limit, as anything below freezing on a bike is more like servival, not adventure. . . . . .

Good luck
johan

PS: plan to be in TDF Nov 2009.

Hey Greg, you will not be missing a whole lot if you skip the Southern half of Argentina. It is pretty much all wasteland until you get to the last 100 miles near the tip where the forests start.

I say fly there instead from B.A. if you really want to go and just take buses to the nearby sights if you really want to go.
