Storing my bike in Chile for 8 months.....
Hello to all.....I am currently in Arequipe, Peru, heading for Chile in the next few days. I would like to store my bike somwhere down here instead of selling it so i can continue in 8 months. Does anyone have any leads? It would sort of be a shame to sell it, only to ship another one down in 8 months, you know? I think Brazil, Chile, and Argentina is a trip in itself and i need more $$$!!!! Thanx to any replies

When entering Chile, you get a sheet with the motorcycle details and an expiration date, usually 3 months. The bike has to leave the country within that time. It is possible to get an extension for up to 8 months altogether. You need to apply to the regional customs office (should be Arica or Iquique in the north)and give them a good reason (like a letter from a doctor).
Don´t try to overstay, a Swiss biker was put into jail because Customs falsely thought he had left the country without his bike on a trip before (He didn´t, but Costums made a mistake in their files, where all foreign vehicles are monitored). good luck Werner |
