slovak passport

Hi
Next July i shall be leaving Canada for South America on my GS,with girlfriend. She is Slovakian,I have checked with the relevant embassys for visa info for both of us.Apart from USA and Canada of course the only countrys that require her to have a visa are Hondurus and Panama.
Has any one who is from non EU or from any of the new EU member states had problems at borders. The Columbian embassy informed me that 'the official on the border may not have seen a Slovak passport before let alone know where it is,so that might cause a delay'.We had a bit of a problem on the Moroccan border at Ceuta this year with them not wanting to stamp her passport.
Would be grateful of any info or experiences at particular borders.

Many Thanks !

Simon

Hi Simon.
My boyfriend is from Slovakia and we started our trip in United States. Until just now we had no problems, bur right now we are stuck in Costa Rica as panamian consulate dont want to give him visa without invitation letter. I am from Czech and have no problem. Dont know yet what we are going to do (by the way, you can read my post under shipping bike south from Costa Rica, just two posts down before yours).
Honduras was no problem, he did not need visa. We both needed visa to Belize, but they give them at the border. And before we started, he got visa for Mexico in the states, but nobody checked it on the border.
Hope it helps.
And enjoy, it is amazing.

Hi Verka/Peter
Thanks for info.I am sorry to hear you have come to a standstill at the moment, but i am sure you will agree it is all part of the experience of travelling.I have a saying "You will get there in the end" one way or another you will so don't worry too much.
I have not seen any info on shipping from C R,but there must be a way.
Have you tried the community link for CR or Panama ? I will call the Panama Embassy in London on Monday to enquire about a visa for my girlfriend.I shall ask them if they have any useful advice for your problem.
Good Luck !

PS My girlfriend (Michaela) is from Nova Bana near Nitra.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
