Shipping KLR parts to La Paz

Hi there

I may need a few parts to be shipped in, a rear brake bracket (what the master cylinder and rear brake lever attach to), a throttle tube, and a spare shift lever.

Has anyone had any experiences getting things through customs in Bolivia, what are the impuestos and is there a best way to do things.

I also need some aftermarket bark busters, off road grips and a new set of indicators - as these aren`t bike specific I would be best shopping for this in La Paz, maybe the throttle tube too?

thanks for your advice in advance

hey
I saw your KLR in Nosiglias early today - tried to pinch it but one of the mechanics spotted me - you might have seen my tenere stripped and dejected looking in front of your bike - I have had much trouble in locating a general motorbike spares shop here in La paz too - its not like any other city I've been in so far where all types of spares are available but as you might have seen already bikes are real rare here due to the climate and topography i presume. There is one shop around the corner from plaza San Pedro - i saw it today - might be a good place to start - maybe they can point you in the direction of a better stocked store

good luck

You may want to get in touch with Becar Moto in Santa Cruz.

Gudday Josh, thats a load of bits you need mate, must have been some get off ;-)

Firstly, the guy who responds to the HU community in La Paz knows his stuff...
Secondly, I saw a street lined with what looked like about 20 bike repair places somewhere in La Paz (really useful eh?!). It was on the Plaza San Fransisco side of whatever the main road is called but much further down from there (like a kilometer or 2).

Its a pain in the arse being in La Paz needing bits, the other option may be ride (if possible) to Arica (about 500k's, all tarmac) then south to Iquique in Chile (300 k's on the Pan Americana). The KTM boys there sorted me out and there must be a Kawasaki dealer there too, maybe do a search here.

Good luck bud,

Pete

Hi guys

thanks for responses. I`ll send a message to HUBB community there.

I have been out of touch, crossed the landslide to get around the back side of Macchu Picchu, interenet there has been painfully slow, couldn`t check anything. Now in Cusco, hope to leave tomorrow (general strike today).

1) Could someone please confirm I can get bark busters in La Paz?
2) My friend Josh (Josh number 2) is in Key West, to fly into La Paz shortly. Pat I don`t think you can ship the indicator in time, I don`t need the switch control. I will ask him to buy me one indicator, the rear brake bracket, a throttle tube and a shift lever. Haven`t worked out if the cyclinder gasket is losing oil yet but it sure looks like it is, just too much dust to see where it`s coming from. Today I will clean it up, and check on the ashphalt road. Not critical as I can just keep topping up oil, not leaking much.
