Shipping FROM Brazil to US
I have not found any recent information about shipping from Sao Paulo or Rio to the US.

Would it be less hassle to simply ride back down to BsAs after Brazil and ship from there?

don't know beans about shipping from Brazil, but Sandra at Dakar Motors made shipping from BA an absolute delight. highly recommended.

How do you want to ship the bike from S.P or Rio? Plane or boat? If plane, then call TAM Cargo. If boat, you will have to go to Santos for SP. There is information on this site about it somewhere ( i read it once), but it was people shipping into BR. I think they listed some contact details about shipping agents. Look around some more.

You'll need an agent
When we flew ours out of Manaus in Mar. '08 we had to get an agent, a crate, and about two days of standing around 'til we could get to Miami.
Cost about $1500 US each if I recall.

Looking back, I would rather go north to Bogota through Venezuela than do it again.

I agree, but the Transamazonica on a loaded bike during the wet season is not going to happen for me.

I shipped out of Rio to Colorado in 2008.

I used James Cargo.

James Cargo Services IATA, AATA, IPATA and DEFRA approved Cargo Agent

Buenos Aires is probably easier but if you are patient it *is* possible to ship out of Brazil.

I'd get an apartment on the beach in Copacabana and give it a couple weeks.

Yeah dude, I was going to do that. Then I figured that I would need another 2 years at least to do Africa properly. So that is not going to happen this time. maybe in a couple of years from now as I am very close to dead flat broke right now. :-(

I had aspirations of a full RTW trip, but then I realized that if I did that, I would just see the world vibrating through my faceshield and would not see or learn/experience anything other than gas stations, tourist towns, and wind noise. So, here I am, still in South America after a year and I have only see a samll part of it.

Now that sounds like a plan right there. Although I would ship the bike, I would probably never leave.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
