Shipping Bikes From South to North America
Hi there!
I'm pretty new to the HUBB so maybe I'm just not using it correctly. However, I have looked for recent information on shipping bikes from South America to North America and there is nothing - all the stuff I found is from '08. Lots of posts on selling and buying bikes but not on sending. I'm going to be finishing up my trip here in a few months. Originally I had planned on selling my 07 KLR but from the people I have met on the road who have sold their bikes the prices are ridiculous... I don't think it's even worth it to sell for 2,000 unless shipping is super expensive. So, now I'm thinking of plan B because I would be happier with my bike that with 2,000 dollars. I live on the west coast so I am assuming that finishing up on the Pacific coast of the continent will make things easier and cheaper. Has any one shipped their bike from Santiago or Valparaiso to the west coast of the US lately? Also, I have heard that it may be easier to and cheaper to ship to Canada than the US - I think I "heard" this on Facebook so please don't quote me:-) Any thoughts on that? Also, any shipping advice in general would be helpful - not only to me but to folks who do this trip soon after me. Thanks in advance. |

I seem to remember a container with bikes leaving Valparaiso in May. Mind you, at 1400.00 plus 250.00 in dock fees it would seem to make more sense to sell the bike for a couple grand, take that along with the 1650.00 you save in shipping cost and buy another KLR in California. My friend shipped his 1200 GSA from BA to Phoenix 2 days ago for 1700 - 1800 $.
Another friend shipped from bogota to miami last fall for 800 $. These are both air freight costs. |

Prices for the overnight journey will range from $99 to $508 for a presidential sleeper cabin. There's no word yet on what it will cost to transport your vehicle, or if motorcycles will be allowed. If it sounds too good to be true, and this is latin america..... it probably is... Don't give up on your local smuggler or shady sailboat captain just quite yet... |

Yes I had the same problem. As much as I love the Hubb (and I may not be using it correctly either) a lot of the info is really dated. I couldnt find much current info on shipping either. With so many on the road I would think, this means riders just aren't taking the time to post that info to the hubb anymore, or their doing it somewhere else like their own blogs. Perhaps posting in the area you are interested in going to get people who have done it recently is a better idea than posting to the shipping page, which as you said, for the most part is pretty outdated.

I came back from BA Jan. 29th. I researched this fairly thoroughly. The best airfreight deals are out of Buenos Aries. I had help from the people at Dakar Motos. It was $1800 for an F800 GS to San Francisco. Dave
