Ship bike to Buenos Aires...

I want to know anything and everything about shipping a bike from the US, Miami, to BS As, Argentina.
I want to go places where I haven't been yet, but this time I want to bring my own bike.
What should I expect? Best shipping companies, what to do at customs in Argentina, how much they charge, if anything, and selling the bike once done, or re-exporting it..... Please help, I want to be there by the end of spetember. Thanks

Hi Gesellman

Everything you need to know is in the Planning section in the LH column: do a search and all will be revealed.

Ask bananaman in the ADV forum, he did it from Bs.As. to US.

Dakar Motos in BA

Sandra at DAKAR MOTOS-HOME OF ´OVER-LAND BIKE´ TRAVEL IN SOUTH AMERICA knows as much as anyone and can facilitate greatly. They have my KTM950 in storage now. Husband Javiar can fix anything or ship tires almost anywhere. This place is the only 5star moto hostal in the area also!

I used a frieght forwarder in BA to help me ship my R1100GS to Chicago. The cheapest/fastest way was on an ordinary American Airlines flight. The frieght forwarder helped me buy a pallet, get the bike strapped down, get it inspected for everything, etc.

If I had been able to wait a few days, I could have used Dakar Motos. Sandra knows everything about bike shipping in and out of everywhere. She would have saved me a few hundred dollars. Next time, no matter where I'm shipping, I'm getting help from Sandra.

Otherwise you can call a few frieght forwarders in the US. They will take care of everything.

Unless you can get 5 or more bikes together, and thus rent a container, the best way is by air. Even if you rent a container, you won't have a guarantee about when your bike will arrive.

Otherwise, just ride it to Argentina. It's not that far.

Good luck!
