selling my bike

hi, i will be starting a trip in quito, ecuador next week on my motorcycle. i would like to sell the bike in south america when i am finished with my trip to avoid the shipping cost and hassels of getting the bike back to the states. ( i think its going to be a total of about $1,200 to ship my bike from miami to quito by the time i get her out of customs next week). i do not really have a time table but a couple of months on the road at least.

i am wondering if anyone here would be intersted in buying my bike when i am finished. i am flexable as to where and when and i might be willing to deliver the bike to a specific location and time if it works out.

the bike is a 2002 BMW 1150gs Adventure in great shape with brand new jessie bags and some other new stuff.

does any one know a good country to sell a bike in south america?? i have heard you can't sell one in chile or agrentina....anyone know if this is true??

thanks, cliff

Your bike

Hey Cliff,

Please let me know when you have a better idea of your finish date as I may be interested in your bike. From the posts it seems Chili is the easiest place to sell the bike but if selling it to a foreigner I don't suppose it matters?
Perhaps you can ask your local DMV how to trasfer ownership when outside of the states.
How much would you be after for it ?

Regards,
Justin

BMW 1150 GSA in South America

Cliff:

I am planning on flying my 2002 1150 GSA to Lima, Peru in Oct. of 2007 and my wife and I are planning on riding two-up south to Ushuaia. We will spend approximately 9-10 weeks and then ship our bike home. If you are interested in selling yours after your trip I would consider purchasing it for our trip instead of doing all the shipping. It is the same bike that I have now. If you want to keep the bike, perhaps we could rent/us it for our trip and then pay to ship it back to US for you. How many miles do you have on it and how many do you expect to have after your trip. If I know the condition of the bike I can bring certain parts with us if we fly down. I already have air tickets for my wife and I to Lima but we certainly could pick up the bike in Quito, Santiago, La Paz or Lima. When do you think you will finsih your trip? If it is anywhere near late summer or any time before Oct. we could certainly work out how to transfer ownership. Feel free to contact me at mtbh2o@aol.com and we can see if any of this makes sense.

Mike
